4 steps ashore
Montpellier, with its Place de la Comédie and its aquarium.
If you measure distance in time, Montpellier is either a quarter of an hour or an hour away, depending how busy it is. But, seeing as you’re out of time
with most people, due to the fact that you’re going the opposite way to the flow from the town to the beach, the bus journey won’t take long. So why not spend a day in the capital? Set off from Carnon at around 10am, go for a stroll in the shade of the plane trees on L’Esplanade, where we can recommend L’Eden for lunch in the shade, pay a visit to the Fabre Museum, which has just been renovated, do a bit of shopping in Le Triangle or the alleyways of the old centre going towards La Place de la Canourgue, then back to La Place de la Comédie, where you can take the tram (the blue one with the white birds on) towards Odysseum. At the terminus, next to the ice rink, cinemas and planetarium, you just have to stop by the Mare Nostrum aquarium. If you’ve cut out the voucher in Cabotages.Coastwise, it’s free. It’s worth it even if you haven’t: it’s a true journey into the world of the waves and the world beneath the waves, with a simulation of a storm in southern seas, Captain Nemo’s cabin, and an explorer’s hut... There are exceptional educational areas, where children can “mess around” with the sea creatures with a staff member and play games... When you leave, you’ll never look at the sea or “museums” in the same way again.![]()
