Carnon-Right side, quiet side
It must be said: the harbour in Carnon is very lively (let us say noisy) in the summer. Fortunately, passenger seats are close to the harbour master’s office (capitainerie) and from there, you can take advantage of the mixed entertainment provided by the town without needing to stay up until the small hours of the morning! Walk down to the end of the harbour where a very wide esplanade has been set aside for games, roundabouts, stalls, street entertainment and music. While parents dine or have a drink at one of the numerous restaurant terraces, children can run around safely: there are no cars. If you want to discover a more local side to life in this harbour, go to the right-hand side as you look out to sea: the unending games of boules are great entertainment, even if you don’t play yourself. If you like walking, go along the beach road towards the East: small turn-of-the-century seaside houses, then the Petit Travers beach, and if you’re feeling adventurous, the Etang de l’Or, a Coastal Conservatory reserve. A must to visit!
